We are headed into another full week of school...the kids are settling in and daily schedules are now becoming a routine. I hope that fourth grade has been an easy transition so far!
I handed out Scholastic book orders to my homeroom and language arts class. Parents may place an order from the book order or online. Just use the classroom code under the "Class Information-Language Arts-Scholastic" tab. September book orders are due by Friday, September 26! This week we are working on our second spelling list. We are learning words that have the long e sound and also looking at patterns of how long e is spelled. Spelling homework is due on Thursday and the test is Friday. We are finishing up our persuasive letters to our parents and letters will be sent home with students on Friday. This is a fun activity that required students to list opinions with reasons and facts to persuade their parents into letting them take the guinea pigs home over a weekend. ***This is just for FUN! Students have been instructed not to whine or pout if a parent is not in favor of bringing home the piggies :)*** We are also beginning Charlotte's Web this week as we take a closer look at the characteristics of fiction. Students will also be assigned an at-home book project over a realistic fiction book as well. This project will be due on October 2. Please keep in mind:
Have a great week! ~Mrs.M I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend! We wrote in our journals today about how we spent our weekend ,and it seemed like my students had a lot of fun with their families! We are journal writing this week since we do not have a spelling list. We are working on writing for an extended time period, and I enjoy reading what the students write in their journals.
We are also reading nonfiction books about guinea pigs and recording facts that support our opinions about our little class critters, Max and Ruby. The students have taken me down this path ,as they are curious to learn about guinea pigs. This is also the perfect time to begin a persuasive letter to our parents to try to convince them to let the students take the guinea pigs home over the weekend:) I am still looking forward to starting Charlotte's Web and I hope to begin it next week, as we discuss elements of fiction. In science we are finishing up our Lab Team Roles and will discuss Lab Safety. We also wrote about why science is important and how it helps us in our everyday lives. Please keep in mind:
Have a fabulous week! ~Mrs.M I had a wonderful first week of school! The kids were awesome! I know it's going to be a great year!
This week we will be finishing up our "How I Spent my Summer Vacation" writing, and will get started putting together our reading notebooks. We will review capitalization and punctuation. We will also have our first list of spelling words. These words will focus on the long "a" sound and how it can be spelled in words. Spelling words will be given on Monday along with the spelling homework. Spelling homework is due on Thursday, and the test will be on Friday. We will also be starting our first book of the year: "Charlotte's Web". This is a wonderful book to start the year off with as it is full of vocabulary, has a wonderful theme and characters, and the story is one that many of the kids can connect with. In Science we will be learning about our lab team roles and safety rules. We will do a few hands-on activities and take noes in our science notebooks. We will also take the science pretest using Study Island. A few things to keep in mind:
