The students have been adjusting wonderfully to middle school, and we are now into the full swing-of-things!
In language arts this week we will be reading the picture book Enemy Pie. Each week we read a book and chose a mentor sentence it. This allows us to get to know the author's craft. We look at all parts of the sentence and then revise it to make our own version! This is something new for me and the kids this year. I am hoping that the students' writing and grammar will improve from this process.
We are also taking time to do Daily Oral Language every morning. This is a quick review of essential grammar skills.
Spelling paragraphs are also on the agenda for the first semester in 4th grade! This process helps students with spelling and writing skills.
This week we are reading about guinea pigs! The students are excited to learn all about our classroom pets. While reading, we will discuss the differences between fiction & nonfiction, fact & opinion, and author's purpose. We will also learn new guinea pig vocabulary.
Science instruction this week will focus on: Why is science important and lab safety.
A few things to keep in mind:
Have a sun-filled week!
